Leaving Pep Band Friends More Than Just a Story

Leaving Pep Band Friends

by Kim I. Maxey

Leaving Pep Band Friends is a young adult book that is narrative nonfiction. The events depicted in the story happened to the author and they are the structure. But the people and place names have been replaced by pseudonyms and the dialogues have mostly been added.

It’s a story that Kim first started writing in the spring of her 9th grade year. She knew she was leaving the place and friends she loved, and she wrote 12000 words of the activities from the previous fall so she would remember them.

Even though it took decades to complete those first chapters, Kim is happy that she finally finished it.

In addition to the story told in two parts, Kim included supportive material in the back for teens who are struggling with adjusting to new places and/or may be suffering with depression.
